Easy Chinese Characters - 中(zhōng)

A written language needs to convey ideas as well as things, so another group of characters illustrating abstract concepts such as one 一, two 二, three 三 are called ideographs. The Character we are going to learn today is pronounced “zhōng” (中), which means “middle”. Looking at the poker card, you can find it looks like an arrow going through the middle. “Guó” (国) means “country or nation” , so China is “zhōng guó”(中国).
